WriteShop allows students to practice various kinds of writing, including creative, expository, narrative, and persuasive, through instructor-led activities. Step-by-step lessons will introduce and review the building blocks of the writing process.

With WriteShop, it is not always necessary to start at Primary Book A. Each level teaches specific skills within a range of ages, making it easier to choose the best place to begin. However, age and skill are not the only factors to consider when placing your student. Our short placement quiz will help you determine the best level to start.
About the Founders
Kim Kautzer and Debbie Oldar, the founders of WriteShop, developed the curriculum to help instructors teach, guide, and evaluate writing in a simple way. In the late ’90s, motivated to teach their tween boys to write, Kim Kautzer and Debbie Oldar offered a yearlong writing class for homeschooled middle schoolers. Most of their students struggled to write a basic paragraph. Kim and Debbie couldn’t find materials that worked for them, so they developed their own lessons and teaching materials week by week.
After the success of their first class, Kim and Debbie opened up a second class and wrote new materials. The first class was called WriteShop I and the second WriteShop II. As word of their success spread, parents asked for a way to teach their students at home. Debbie and Kim listened and wrote a teacher’s manual for their flagship curriculum.
Both Kim and Debbie have retired and are enjoying spending time with their families.
