Math-U-See Magentic Blocks

What are Math-U-See Magnetic Blocks?

Our Magnetic Blocks were originally created for Steve Demme, the creator of Math-U-See, to use in a classroom setting for the video demonstrations. The blocks you see being used in the Math-U-See videos are wooden teacher blocks that have magnetic strips on the back. These Magnetic Blocks are larger than the traditional Math-U-See Manipulatives. For example, the 100-block in the magnetic set is 10″x 10″ compared to 5”x5” in the Integer Block Kit.

Can I purchase the Math-U-See Magnetic Blocks?

They are available by phone order only. Please call 888-854-6284 Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET and we would be happy to assist you.

The Teacher Magnetic Manipulative Block Set consists of 40 pieces. Each set includes (2) hundred blocks, (10) ten blocks, (12) unit blocks, and (2) each of two through nine blocks. We recommend that two sets are necessary to be able to work the sample problems from the Instruction Manuals.

Because they are not in high demand, we produce a small quantity of them at a time. In addition, they are hand-made and have a higher production cost.

Are there any cons to the magentic blocks?

The standard blocks are hollow when you invert them, which helps students see being “in the hole” when working with subtraction or negative numbers. This is not possible with the magnetic blocks, which are solid on the back to accommodate the magnetic strips.
