Should my student use a calculator with Math-U-See?

Calculator use is not recommended for the Primer through Zeta levels. While students are developing thinking skills and learning basic facts, it is important that they memorize their facts and use pencil and paper to work the processes of each operation.

From PreAlgebra through Calculus, a calculator may be used to check their work on multi-step problems or when calculating square roots.

When working on cumbersome problems such as finding the surface area of solid objects, a calculator might be used as long as the parent is sure that the students could work these problems by hand.

What type of calculator does my student need?

No special calculator is needed for levels PreAlgebra through Algebra 2, but a scientific calculator will be needed in the PreCalculus and Calculus levels to work trigonometric functions.
