Record Keeping, Grading, and Transcripts

If you would like to keep track of your student’s progress as they move from lesson to lesson, you can use our Record Keeping Sheets. They are included immediately following the copyright page in the Student Workbooks for levels Alpha through Pre-Algebra and as a printable PDF in the Digital Toolbox for all levels except Calculus.

You can download a Record Keeping Sheet for Calculus here.

You can download a blank Record Keeping Sheet here.

To access the Record Keeping Sheet PDFs for levels AlphaPreCalculus:

1) Log in to the Demme Learning Digital Toolbox.

  • If you have purchased directly from Demme Learning (Math-U-See, Spelling You See, Analytical Grammar, or WriteShop), you should already have an account. Use the email address and password that you’ve used to place your order. If you have an account but have forgotten your password, you can request to reset it here.
  • If you have not purchased directly from Demme Learning (Math-U-See, Spelling You See, Analytical Grammar, or WriteShop), you will need to sign up for a free Digital Toolbox account here.

2)  From the left navigation menu, select “Products.”

3) Select the level needed (AlphaPreCalculus). If you select a level using the “My Products” section, you can navigate to any lesson within the level you are selecting or click on the “Go to _____” link.

If you are navigating through the “My Digital Packs” section, you can simply click on the level needed.

4) Click the “Expand+” button in the “Glossary, Indexes, Tables” section.

Here you will see the “Record Keeping Sheet” link.

What grading system does Math-U-See recommend?

Homeschool laws and requirements differ from state to state, so each homeschooling parent will need to check what your state requires for record-keeping and grading. HSLDA is a great resource to find out information about your state’s specific requirements.

Math-U-See does not have a recommended grading system. If you want or need to give grades, you may use any system that makes sense to you and that you feel fairly reflects your child’s progress.

Does my student need a transcript? What do I need to put on the transcript?

The requirements for homeschool record keeping vary from state to state. Even if your state does not require you to report a homeschool agenda, it is in your student’s best interest to keep track of their accomplishments.

There are loads of great resources and advice to be found on the internet. One source that has aggregated a lot of great information is the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).

HSLDA has provided homeschool transcript samples, preparation resources, and much more.
If you need a description of our secondary math courses (Pre-Algebra through Calculus and Stewardship), you can find them here.
