The Value of Math-U-See Student Packs

Math-U-See has been designed with lesson sequences and tools for full support of mastery-based learning. Central to this approach are the structured pages within the Student Pack, which guide learners through foundational concepts to advanced applications. In this guide, we discuss the utility of the Student Pack and how the Worksheet Generator can help as a valuable supplement for extra practice, empowering students and instructors to tailor their mathematical journey effectively.

Math-U-See Student Pack

Each Math-U-See workbook for levels Primer—Pre-Algebra contains A, B, and C pages titled Lesson Practice. These three pages provide the student with problems focused on the new concept in the mastery sequence. They will also have word problems that apply to the new concept.

Pages D, E, and F, titled Systematic Review, cover concepts the student has previously mastered but is continuing to practice. These pages also include word problems for continued practice.

The D page specifically, in the workbook, is where a student might see a Quick Review that is shaded darker than the other pages and has a unit block icon.

This page is critical not to skip and always ties back to practicing a concept covered in a previous book.

For levels Primer – Pre-Calculus there is also a G page titled—depending on the printing—either Application & Enrichment—for the general math levels—or Honors for the secondary math levels. While these pages cannot be counted as an honors course, they are a deeper dive into the concepts and where graphs, charts, and statistical style questions are provided for your student’s enrichment. They are optional but encouraged.

At a minimum, a student should complete pages A and D, teach back the concept to you, and take the lesson test. Some students will need all pages and problems, while others can do the minimum required pages. Because this is a mastery-based program, we hope you, as the parent, will customize the lesson to your student’s needs to master the lesson content.

Worksheet Generator

The Worksheet Generator is a free tool available in the Digital Toolbox. It is a valuable resource that can be used to generate additional lesson practice worksheets for a student who needs more time and practice with a concept before moving to new material.

It is extremely limited in that it can only provide practice equations related to a specific concept for a given lesson. They are not available for every lesson and are limited to concepts that are equation-based. If you notice a gap in the available lessons, it is because the concept being taught has an associated graphic (for example circumference/radius of a circle), therefore these lessons are omitted in the sequence of available lessons. The worksheet generator also cannot generate word problems.

The worksheet generator was never designed to replace the physical Student Workbook and Test booklet for any level. It was designed only to provide additional practice for those students who need it.

We’re Here to Help

We hope this information helps you to understand the importance of having the workbook and test book for each student to be the most successful and to be exposed to all the types of learning a lesson offers for mastery of a concept.

We do have suggestions if your student places into a level but only needs to review some concepts or address gaps. Please reach out to customer service if you need support for this type of situation.
