How Long Does It Take to Complete the AIM Program? Is There a Pacing Guide?

There is no specific pacing guide provided for the AIM programs because they are designed around the principles of Accelerated Individualized Mastery.  Each student progresses at their own pace, and that flexibility is intentional. We’ve deliberately chosen not to include a pacing guide, as the core philosophy of the program is to adapt to the learner, not the other way around.

In fact, the early lessons are intentionally meant to take time. They focus on helping students break the habit of counting—an ingrained behavior for many children. Changing these foundational and default habits takes time, and this early phase is meant to support that transformation in a way that feels natural and sustainable. This is not a level of Math-U-See.  Instead, it is an intervention to resolve a habit that slows a student down in the successful completion of computational tasks.

Anytime the brain has to stop and count, the student is losing critical energy and finding it more difficult to integrate and retain new information.  As we learn more advanced math, we shift to more efficient, abstract, and generalized methods.

We’ve found that investing time in the beginning stages—where students work to replace inefficient strategies—yields meaningful, lasting results. Once those foundational changes begin to take hold, students often accelerate through the latter parts of the program with increased confidence and momentum. 

While every student is unique, many instructors report that it takes approximately 8–12 weeks doing two to three 15-minute sessions a day for their student to fully master the AIM material. However, we emphasize that mastery should never be rushed. Please keep in mind that the AIM program is not a workbook course and cannot be completed independently by the student. It requires active participation from both parent/instructor and student using the multi-sensory activities laid out in the Resource Guide and modeled in the AIM for Success videos.  

To get the best results, give yourself and your student time to settle into the process. Pay close attention to signs of genuine understanding and confidence before moving forward.

Let your student’s progress—not a calendar—set the pace.
