Using Region Preferences in the Digital Toolbox
(Homeschool Parent / Instructor Accounts Only)

This guide explains how Homeschool Parent / Instructor users can customize their instructional materials by selecting a region preference in the Digital Toolbox. This feature is designed specifically for homeschool accounts and is not available for School / Co-Op Admin or Teacher accounts.

What is the Region Preferences Feature?

The Region Preferences feature allows homeschool users to customize lesson instructions, student solutions, and test solutions based on localized formatting, terminology, and regional conventions. This ensures materials are more relevant to your preferred country or location.

Currently available regions: United States, Australia, and New Zealand

When you change your region setting, your instructional materials will automatically reload with the updated regional conventions. Video content is not affected and remains the same across all regions.

Why Use Region Preferences?

Region Preferences help provide a more comfortable and familiar learning experience. Whether you’re living abroad or prefer your home country’s conventions, this setting makes it easier to match the language, structure, and expectations you’re used to.

Examples of possible user scenarios:

• “I am an Australian living in the United States, and I want my student to use Math-U-See Australian instructional materials.”
  
• “I live in New Zealand and want Math-U-See materials tailored for New Zealand learning conventions.”

Examples of some differences in materials:

• The metric system (e.g., using meters and kilograms instead of feet and pounds)
• Rounding based on regional currency (e.g., rounding to the nearest five cents in Australia)
• Regional spelling differences (e.g., “colour” instead of “color” in Australian and New Zealand materials)
  

How to Set or Change Your Region Preferences

1. Sign in to your Instructor Account on the Digital Toolbox.
   
2. On desktop, from the main dashboard, locate the sidebar menu on the left.
   (Mobile users: Region Preferences are located under the main menu sidebar.)
   
3. Scroll down to the Region Preferences section near the bottom.
   
4. Toggle the switch next to the region you would like to select (United States, Australia, or New Zealand).
   
5. Your instructional materials will automatically reload with your selected region’s settings.
   

Your preference will be saved for future visits. If you change it again later, the materials will reload accordingly.

Best Practices for Using Region Preferences

• For Homeschool Accounts Only: This feature is available only to Homeschool Parent / Instructor accounts. It is not currently available for School / Co-Op Admin or Teacher accounts.
  
• Notify Your Students: When you change your region preference, let your students know. Materials like lesson instructions and solutions may look slightly different depending on the selected region.
  
• Understand What Changes (and What Doesn’t): Changing your region only affects text-based materials (like lessons and solutions). Video content stays the same no matter which region you select.
  
• Choose the Region That Fits Best: Select the region that matches your instructional needs or personal preferences. You can change it anytime.

Why isn’t the Region Preferences feature available for School or Co-Op accounts?

This feature is designed specifically for individual homeschool instructors and their students. School accounts often have standardized materials across classes and locations, which makes individualized regional settings more complicated.

Does changing my region affect video content?

No. Video content remains the same across all regions. Only instructional text materials (such as Lesson Instructions, Student Solutions, and Test Solutions) are localized.

Can I change my region preference later?

Yes. You can change your region at any time by visiting the Region Preferences section on your dashboard.

What happens if I make a mistake and select the wrong region?

You can return to the Region Preferences section at any time and select the correct region. Your materials will reload automatically.

Why are only select countries/regions available?

Localized materials are available for select regions based on what has been developed so far. As we expand our curriculum offerings, more regions may become available.

Will changing my region affect my current students’ progress?

No. Student progress and activity are not affected. Only the instructional text materials they access will reflect the newly selected region.

Do I need to match the Region Preference to my student’s printed workbook or test?

Yes. To avoid confusion, make sure the Region Preference you select in the Digital Toolbox matches the printed materials (like the Instruction Manual, student workbook, or test booklet) your student is using. For example, if your student is using the U.S. edition of the workbook, selecting the U.S. region in the Toolbox ensures that solutions and instructional text align properly. Mismatched settings may show differences in spelling, units of measurement (e.g., metric vs. imperial), or currency formatting.
