Welcome to Algebra 2: Principles of Secondary Mathematics (Algebra 2: PSM). This course represents a shift to a modern, digitally-driven experience designed to support deep conceptual understanding and flexible learning. Because this format differs from our legacy courses, we have compiled the following guide to help you and your student hit the ground running.

A Modern, Digital Experience

All materials for Algebra 2: PSM are accessed online through a Premium Subscription. This subscription provides everything you need in one place, including:

  • Online Control Centers: Both instructors and students have a dedicated dashboard to navigate lessons, access videos, and locate resources like formula sheets, record-keeping sheets, and blank graphs.
  • Updated Lesson Structure: Algebra 2: PSM departs from the “Part A/Part B” format found in Algebra 1: PSM. Instead, it features nearly 60 streamlined lessons. For more information about pacing, see Pacing in Algebra 2: Principles of Secondary Mathematics.
  • Assessments: To ensure mastery, Targeted Reviews are included at the end of every odd-numbered lesson. Tests follow even-numbered lessons and cover the content of the preceding two lessons (e.g., Test 1 covers Lessons 1 and 2).
  • Diverse Instruction: Lessons feature off-screen video presenters, utilizing both male and female voices for clear, engaging instruction.

Tip #1: Take Advantage of the Readiness and Review Material

Readiness & Review for Algebra 2 is a recommended prerequisite included with your account to ensure your student is prepared for the rigor of Algebra 2: PSM.

  • The Purpose of Readiness & Review for Algebra 2: It is designed to evaluate and review foundational Algebra 1 skills and concepts to support success in this course.
  • The Readiness Check: This functions as a pre-test. After completion, instructors use a Review Lessons Chart to identify exactly which of the 12 review lessons the student needs to complete.
  • Targeted Review: If you already know your student’s strengths, you may skip the Readiness Check and assign specific Review Lessons directly.

Tip #2: Prepare for the Lesson

Because this course is delivered digitally, active preparation is key to a smooth daily routine.

  • Print Lesson Pages: Students should print their Lesson Pages directly from the Online Lesson page before beginning. These pages are where students record notes from videos and complete practice problems.
    • Pro Tip: We recommend printing on three-hole punch paper and organizing them in a binder for easy reference.
  • Instructor Responsibilities: Tests and Solutions are located within the instructor’s view. You will need to print these assessments and provide them to your student when they are ready to demonstrate mastery.
  • Technical Readiness: Ensure you have a stable internet connection (50 Mbps recommended) and that your browser’s JavaScript and cookies are enabled to view all multimedia content.
