What is the Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics?

The Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics is a free optional Readiness Check and set of skills lessons that have been created to aid in preparing students for algebra. It covers some of the essential concepts and skills needed for success in an algebra course that may have been forgotten or not covered in great depth in their previous studies.

It consists of Readiness Check material and 14 skills lessons. The Readiness Check helps identify which skills lessons would benefit your student. The format of the skills lessons provides both new and current Math-U-See students with an introduction to the design of Algebra 1: Principles of Secondary Mathematics.

The Readiness and Review materials are:

  • Not a full course
  • Optional
  • Free 
  • Only available in a digital format within the Demme Learning online account.

Who should use the Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics?

We highly recommend that any student planning on using Algebra 1: Principles of Secondary Mathematics and has completed a Pre-Algebra course whether using Math-U-See or another program will benefit from using these materials. 

If your student is moving into Algebra 1: Legacy Edition, they can also benefit from the skills covered.

Remember these materials are optional for all students and instructors should review the materials and decide what is best for their individual student’s needs.

This is a free digital-only resource offered within your online Demme Learning account.

How much time do the skills lessons take to complete? When should we begin?

Students may only need some of the skills lessons that are in the Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics. Using the Skills Assessment and Skills Analysis within the Readiness Check section will help you determine which skills lessons would benefit your student. 

Each skills lesson takes an average of 30 minutes. We recommend doing no more than two or three a day. If you and your student determine it’s best to complete all of the skills lessons, we recommend spreading them out over two to three weeks.

We recommend that you start any time between finishing Pre-Algebra and a few weeks before beginning Algebra 1: Principles of Secondary Mathematics.

Where can I find the Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics?

Because this is a digital product, you will not receive any physical books but you will need a printer to print lesson pages.

Once you’ve navigated to the Readiness and Review for Algebra 1 Principles of Secondary Mathematics, start with the “Readiness Check” tab. 

This section will give you options and instructions on how to use the Skills Assessment and Skills Analysis. These will help you determine which skills lessons your student would benefit from. 

Remember, your student may not need to complete all of the skills lessons. The skills lessons do not need to be completed in any particular order.
